SALT: Recharge Menno Haven

Every other year at Iowa Mennonite School (IMS) students spend a week of official school days participating in Service and Learning Term or SALT. For these days, students join faculty in various locations for a week of experiential and authentic learning. We had a group of 8 students and 2 adults join us here at Menno Haven for the last full week of March. 

The major focus of the week was  learning about renewable energy in a hands-on way by helping Dick Yoder-Short install solar panels on Deer Run Staff House. The group spent time at a local wind farm learning about wind energy as well.

​The SALTers also spent time clearing brush and downed trees around Pine Point campfire site creating a huge bonfire, clearing leaves out of the pool, and participating in several prairie burns which was a signficant help!!

You can't have all work and no play.
The SALTers tried out Crate Stacking, one of our indoor high ropes elements and found out that
you really can climb crates stacked on top of each other when you don't have to worry about falling. ​
