Distance Learning Together
Who is this for?
The Menno Haven Learning Pod is for those who have chosen an online learning option for school this semester. We are providing this chance for those who would like their student to have structure during the school hours, while safely distancing from others in a small group setting. The Learning Pod provides the connection students could miss working from home, due to low Wi-Fi strength and/or social loneliness. Each student & one guardian will be required to sign an agreement prior to the first day agreeing that the student will respect leaders and schedules set by Menno Haven and will complete their school assignments as assigned by their school system. |
When & Where?
September 21 – October 16: Monday-Friday 7:45am-3pm.
Families will be in charge of getting their student to/from Eagle Wing Activity Center on our campus. No transportation will be provided by Menno Haven.
What’s the general outline for the program?
7:45am: Arrival
Upon arrival, each student will get their temperature recorded as well as be asked if they have any symptoms of COVID-19, at the request of IDPH.
8:00-Noon: Individualized School Work at Individual Stations.
Each student will bring their own device AND headphones, as well as paper, writing utensils and/or whatever supplies are needed to do their school work. Menno Haven will provide a morning snack for students. There will also be quick brain breaks to keep students active.
Noon-1pm: Lunch Hour & Free Time
Each student will be in charge of bringing their own lunch and water bottle.
1-3pm: STEAM & Camp Activities
Using Menno Haven’s STEAM program, each afternoon there will be an activity from one of the 5 categories (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Math) around the Menno Haven property to provide hands on activities to supplement their schoolwork. When time allows, the pods will experience summer camp games & activities, all while maintaining social distancing protocol set up by the state.
3pm Departure: All Students will head for home!
Who will be supervising the students?
Our Program Manager, Ashley Litwiller, who has worked in schools the past 2 years as a certified substitute teacher in Illinois school districts. There will also be another adult staff member/volunteer in the space with the group; this volunteer will vary based on days.
How much will it cost me?
For the 20 days, it will cost $400 per student. ($20/day) With one full price registration, each additional sibling will get $50 discount.
When do I have to sign my student up by?
Please register your student by September 17th.
Will this program have another round?
Our team will evaluate if this is a helpful ministry to continue.
How many students total will my student be in contact with?
