Thanks Mennonite Church of Normal
The folks at Mennonite Church of Normal have been keeping Interstate 39 busy coming up almost once a week for most of the Oak Lodge Renovation.
During the first week of the Renovation a group of 6 Junior High young men and 5 accompanying adults came up to do some demolition. Unfortunately the fun, knocking down walls portion of demolition was done. They instead got to take out concrete that had been jackhammered into pieces, dig trenches for new plumbing lines and install furring strips on concrete walls. They did some hard work.....and then got to play hard too. What a wonderful gift this group was!
Starting in November, on most Monday mornings around 8:30 a little blue car pulled into the parking lot and a group of 3 men got out. Sometimes they brought additional friends but they always brought their smiles and their hard-working spirit. They helped take down drywall in the hotel hallway, paint the new mechanical room, helped with the electrical upgrades in the hotel rooms, hang drywall, prepped the cedar to be repurposed in the Oak Commons room, prepped the hotel walls for painting, and helped paint the hotel rooms and hallway. They spent 23 people days here and have been a tremendous asset on the Oak Lodge Renovation.
