Take off your masks: Discovering your true identity as a child of God

Description:  At the beginning of Jesus' ministry, he faces a time of temptation by Satan in the wilderness. Jesus is tempted to define who he is according to what the world values--performance, possessions and popularity. As we explore this story together, we will look at what we can learn from how Jesus resisted these temptations in order to be true to himself and his God-given calling.  We will also seek to identify and remove the masks that we are tempted to put on, so that we can discover the unique person that God created us to be.

Stephen "Tig" Intagliata is in his second year as Campus Pastor of Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio.  Before coming to Bluffton, Tig served as a missionary in Bolivia, South America, and has pastored churches in San Antonio, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona.  He has a passion for helping youth and young adults experience God's love and grace in their lives, and enjoys helping them discover and embrace their true identity in Christ.  Tig is married to Karen and has three young adult children--Andrew, Lucas and Emily.

“Plastic cups, blindfolds, & beach balls: Learning how to notice God”

Description: What do a plastic cup, a blindfold, and beach balls have to do with God?  At the 2008 Jr. High Retreat these three items will help you notice God in a whole new way!  Our Lord and Creator is nearly bursting at the seams to communicate with us but we are often to distracted with our schedules, our friends, or our sports teams to notice.  We miss God’s plan for us completely!  The goal of our weekend together will be to notice God in ways we never have before.  So get ready for some CRAZY activities…you never know how much a plastic cup, a blindfold, or a beach ball could teach you about God’s creative ways of communicating His love!

“Celebrating and motivating people towards life changing action!”  That’s Abby’s mission statement for life!  Abby Reel-Haas lives in Bloomington, IL with her husband Jason and her cat Moses.  Abby grew up in the Mennonite Church in Roanoke and is currently a member of the Mennonite Church of Normal.  In her early years she struggled to own her denominational roots until she was totally displaced from them!  Abby experienced a whole new side of Mennonites while living in inner-city Chicago and studying issues of social justice through her Urban Studies Program at Illinois Wesleyan University.  A graduate of IWU, Abby now works as an admission counselor and event coordinator for IWU as she pursues her Masters in Community Counseling.  Abby and her husband are big teambuilding fans and look forward to a very ACTIVE weekend at Menno Haven this January!
